Preparing For You New Worktop Installation

When you have decided which Kitchen Worktops you love and have ordered them, you may now need to think about what the next step is in order to prepare for their arrival.

Most of this work and thought it carried out by the people who are fitting the worktops, however, there are some things that you can do to help make the process go as smooth as possible.

Specialist equipment is used to cut Marble, Granite and Quartz Worktops. This is why they are made off-site and are manufactured, made to measure.

To be able to make this happen and get the perfect cut, the kitchen fitters will need to make a visit to your home to measure and create a template of the room. This will include the precise size and shape of the units that the worktop will cover, the position and size of your sink along with the taps and oven hob. They will also take into account other additions that you may have, for example, pop-up sockets and sink drainer groves.

Kitchen Cabinets

Before the fitters arrive to assemble your new Kitchen Worktops, you will already have to have the kitchen base cabinets in place. This is to ensure that the measurements are absolutely correct to make the template perfect. They will need to be in their final position before the worktops get delivered.

If you have had a new kitchen island installed, you may need to use a spirit level to make sure that they are flat.

You may be having a new worktop installed to an existing kitchen. If this is the case, the removal of your old worktops will be required before the new ones arrive.

Some thought will be given to the weight of the worktops that you have chosen, making sure that the weight of them isn’t too much for your floor and cabinets to handle.

Sink, Hob and Taps

In order to make the initial template, we need to know exactly where you will be having your sink and hob. We also need to make note of where the taps will be, whether they will be fitted to the worktop or the sink.

Also, if you have the items to hand, that is even more helpful. This is so that we can double check the measurements of the items and think about whether the sink will be over or under-mounted.

A support cradle may need to be considered if you have chosen a heavy under-mount sink. This much be fitted before the templating process begins.

In regards to installing the sink and hob, we will need them to not be wired in at this stage. We will need to have templated and fitted the worktops before this takes place.

Making Your Decision Easier

The main decisions that you will need to make before the worktop template can be created is where you would like the sink and hob to be. There will also be other questions relating to the joins in the worktop and where you want them to be.

Preparation

After our fitters have measured and designed your template, it’s time for it to be sent to the manufacturer for production. The worktop will then be made to those exact requirements.

To prepare for the delivery of your new worktops, there are a few things you can do to help.

Clear the Kitchen and Hallway – When the fitters arrive, it’s important to provide clear access from the entrance of your home to the kitchen. Kitchen worktops are extremely heavy, so ensuring a safe and clear run through is essential to prevent any accidents.

Clearing Out – If you have started to use your kitchen units, it’s recommended to remove all goods from inside them before our arrival. The fitters will need to access the cabinets to secure the worktop in place, and removing cabinet door fronts and drawers can also prevent accidents from occurring.
